Self scan boarding passes introduced at Lisbon

Egates for self scan boarding passes have been introduced at Lisbon terminal 1.

The egates scan the boarding pass to check that the passenger is entering the correct security area for the correct flight and date.

The eGates are based on the vb i-match® check-point gates from the Portuguese company Vision-Box, an industry leader in automated border control e-gates and electronic identity solutions.

Vision-Box’s vb i-match® check-point gates will enable faster and automated processing of passengers, by validating their boarding pass, whatever the format used – paper or electronic (smartphone / PDA).

This new concept, currently in its pilot phase, will enable a more expedite self-service process at the airport’s checkpoints, opening the way to increased passenger flow, more control and a much better traveler experience.

According to João Nunes, Director of Lisbon Airport, “This partnership allows ANA to offer the most advanced technologies in the implementation of self-service solutions for passengers in complete alignment with the IATA TRAVEL FAST program, which is also supported by the ACI.” João Nunes adds “this is a project executed in Portugal, by Portuguese companies.”

For Miguel Leitmann, Senior Vice President of Vision-Box ® SA “Once again Lisbon Airport and ANA differentiate themselves from other international airports by investing in innovation and the best of breed solutions in the market, offering passengers unique and innovative solutions. This project also demonstrates the suitability of our border control eGates for other processes within the airport such as access control, security checkpoints and boarding”.

Since 2006 more than 300 vb i-match® eGates have been installed in more than 30 international airports.
