ABC eGates at Kotoka Airport in Ghana

10 ABC e-gates will be installed at the airport

Kotoka airport in Ghana is set to introduce an ABC e-gate system to help improve security at Ghana’s only international airport.

The project is part of President John Dramani Mahama’s e-Immigration initiative and is aimed at ensuring security and efficiency at the country’s entry points. The integrated e-Immigration system will enable the regulation of entry into and exit from Ghana.

10 ABC e-gates will be installed at the airport to help beef up security and ease passenger transit.

This should reduce congestion at the airport, which saw 2.5 million passengers passing through in 2014, as opposed to 1.3 million in 2009.

Meetings are currently ongoing between the government and the Ghana Airport Company on the project however the Government is optimistic that the eGate security system will be installed at Kotoka within the next two months.

This follows a contract signed between the Ministry and a joint venture of Messrs Gemalto (France) and Avalon Biometrics of Spain in January 2013 for the redeployment of an e-immigration system in the country.
