Cathay Pacific activates iBeacon technology at SFO

Cathay passengers can get customized information on their iPhone upon entry in the Cathay lounge at SFO.

Cathay Pacific has partnered with LoungeBuddy so that passengers can receive customized information on their iPhone upon entry in the Cathay Pacific lounge at SFO.

Starting on June 29 and lasting for 60 days, passengers with the LoungeBuddy App on their iPhone can receive customized information upon entry in the Cathay Pacific lounge at SFO.

Information such as today’s food and beverage menu and an enhanced overview of the lounge’s available amenities will be instantly displayed on passengers’ iPhones using the lounge’s iBeacon network, as well as the option to check in on social media.

Passengers using LoungeBuddy to share their Cathay Pacific lounge experience to Twitter will be automatically entered to win a daily prize drawing for a limited-edition Cathay Pacific plush goat – commemorating the Chinese Zodiac year of the goat.

When sharing their lounge experience to either Twitter or Facebook, they will be entered to win the grand prize of 60,000 Asia Miles and one round-trip Premium Economy Class ticket to Hong Kong at the end of the promotion.

Cathay Pacific lounges

Cathay Pacific is renowned for its airport lounges, with The Pier First Class lounge at Hong Kong International Airport having just re-opened after an extensive renovation.

SFO is the airline’s first and only branded lounge in the US, which opened at SFO International Terminal A in 2011. The lounge is open four hours prior to flight departure.

Passengers invited to enjoy the lounge are First and Business Class passengers departing on Cathay Pacific and oneworld carriers, and members of the Marco Polo Club with Silver Card status and above and oneworld Sapphire or above members.
