Robots are going to work at Incheon

Fifteen in trial to improve passenger service

Incheon International Airport in Seoul is to trial robots to improve passenger service.

The robots will provide information for passengers, handle baggage and even clean floors.

The trial starts later this year and runs until August 2017.

The Chosun Ilbo reports that fifteen of the robots are going to ‘work’ in three areas:

  • five will offer directions to airport users
  • five will handle baggage processing
  • five more will clean floors

The robots, developed by LG Electronics, can move carefully through passengers and can “speak” Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese.

“If a robot gets a question it can’t answer, it will seek the necessary information from an airport official,” an airport spokesman said. “The information will be transmitted in real time to other robots so they can answer the question too.”

LG Electronics plans to use state-of-the-art robotic technology and ICT as well as artificial intelligence software.
