Cathay opens dedicated check-in at Shenzhen Shekou

Planning for cruise ship expansion

Cathay Pacific now offers a dedicated check-in desks at Shenzhen Shekou Cruise Homeport for its passengers connecting to Hong Kong International.

The Cathay service offers a new dedicated service for Cathay passengers and coincides with the official opening of Shenzhen Shekou Cruise Home Port, which is soon to be a major cruise ship base.

The Chinese government has decided that Shenzhen will become a major cruise development area. The port has started its upgrades and the first cruise operated last month.

With the opening of the new facilities, Cathay Pacific is the first airline to provide its passengers with a dedicated check-in service at the upgraded ferry terminal.

The Cathay Pacific check-in counters provide passengers a one-stop service including baggage drop and boarding and lounge pass issuance, in addition to customs and immigration facilities at a single location.

On arrival at Hong Kong International Airport, passengers step straight from the ferry to their Cathay Pacific or Cathay Dragon flight, take the opportunity to indulge in some leisurely pre-flight shopping or relax in one of Cathay Pacific’s lounges before boarding.

Cathay Pacific General Manager Sales PRD & Hong Kong Liza Ng:

“Cathay Pacific launched its first ever “upstream” check-in service in Shekou in 2005 in order to provide a seamless connection between the Pearl River Delta region and our international flights departing from Hong Kong. The opening of the new check-in counters together with our personalised service will enable us to deliver our promise of a Life Well Travelled”.

Shenzhen Shekou future plans

When you add all the air, land and sea routes, Shenzhen is Asia’s largest port city. In 2015 over 239 million passengers cleared customs. Shenzhen is an important tourist destination, tourist source and an inbound and outbound tourism center.

The Chinese government plans for Shezhen to become a major cruise ship center and in doing so it will transform the economy of the region.
