Kotoka Airport in Ghana installs 10 border control eGates

System captures fingerprint biometric

A new biometric border control and visa management system has been installed at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana.

The e-migration system is part of a bigger e-migration initiative by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to enhance security clearance procedures and passenger processing.

10 ABC e-gates are installed at the airport and the new ABC eGate biometric process operates by reading the e-Passport chip and capturing fingerprints.

The Government of Ghana plans to collect and analyse data on passengers to help inform migration policy and implementation and also promote E-government application and communication.

The system is deployed under the e-Transform programme, a World Bank funded project under the Ministry of Communications, and will verify travel documents and capture passenger information.

Ghana planned to introduce eGates in 2015. At that time, in looked like a deal was agreed with Gemalto.
