Frankfurt Airport new service – First Aid for baggage

Airport service fixes damaged bags on arrivals

Passengers arriving at Frankfurt Airport can now get damaged bags fixed at the airport.

All passengers know that after they check in their bags they are taken care of in a gentle, careful manner. All bags are treated with respect and none are ever thrown or dropped or swung by the handle.

But sometimes accidents do happen and bags are occasionally damaged.

In that case, passengers arriving at Frankfurt can make use of a really useful new service that will repair their bags on the spot.

Airport Baggage Service (FGS) in Arrivals Hall B can fix any luggage mishap, however big or small,  so there’s no need for passenger journeys to be disrupted by damaged wheels, missing handles and so on. The staff know the various manufacturers’ products and can make damaged suitcases ready for travel again.

They can also help with broken glasses, battered heels, lost buttons and other such small problems.

In general, there is no charge for repair or replacement, as the airline is normally liable for the destruction, loss or damage of checked baggage. This does not include normal wear and tear such as scratches, scrapes or small dents.

In the event of a write-off, the current value of the item is reimbursed. The company stocks around 1,500 replacement suitcases from all well-known brands and in every price category should passengers baggage be beyond repair.

In order to use the FGS service, passengers must make a direct complaint at the airline’s desk or in writing within seven days of the flight.

Location

The FGS workshop can be found at Baggage Claim B in Terminal 1, directly next to Baggage Carousel 11.

Opening hours

FGS’ opening hours are aligned to the operating hours of Frankfurt Airport. The workshop is open 365 days a year from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. More information (in German) is available at www.fgs-frankfurt.de.
