Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport has introduced Automated Border Control (ABC) eGates using fingerprint technology.
The new eGates are from French company Imprimerie Nationale Group. They comply with France’s national PARAFE (Passage Rapide aux Frontières Extérieures – Fast Pass through the External Borders) framework.
The five ABC eGates use fingerprint biometrics and are ready for facial recognition when/if it gets introduced.
Arriving French or German passengers with biometric passports can use the ABC eGates. In future, other European Union passport holders will use the eGates.
The configuration in Lyon means that one border control staff can supervise five passengers, compared to one in a tradition setting.
Imprimerie Nationale took over Thales Identity & Biometrics earlier this month.
How it works
- Passengers insert their biometric passport into the slot in the eGate
- They enter the eGate when the door opens after verifying their suitability
- Passengers show a finger to the fingerprint reader
- If the fingerprint check is OK, passengers exit the eGate through another door
