Turkish Airlines now offers laptops to its business class passengers flying to the United States after a ban on large-sized electronic devices in cabin from certain countries.
The in-flight laptops have a touch screen and a built-in security system to protect user privacy. All records will be automatically deleted when the computer is turned off.
The airline will also offer the same service to business-class passengers bound for the United Kingdom, which also issued the ban, from May 12.
Washington has barred all electronic devices larger than a mobile phone on direct flights to the United States from 10 airports in seven Middle Eastern countries and Turkey, only allowing them to be transported in hold luggage.
The United Kingdom followed with a similar ban for five countries in the Middle East and north Africa as well as Turkey.
Turkish Airlines has also started implementing measures to keep passengers’ electronic devices safe during flights to the U.S. and the U.K.
Passengers hand their devices to Turkish Airlines staff before boarding the aircraft and get them back on arrival.
Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekş:
“The electronic devices will be received by an airline officer during the last check-in before boarding the aircraft and will be placed in special shatterproof luggage after being wrapped in foam covers. We guarantee that passengers’ devices will not be damaged or lost.”
