Jakarta installs 32 ABC eGates from Vision-Box

32 new ABC eGates use facial recognition

Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has inaugurated an Automated Border Control infrastructure system at its new terminal 3.

The new border control solution consists of 32 Automated Border Control eGates for eligible Indonesian nationals and 10 portable biometric suitcases.

It also includes 32 individual fingerprint and passport scanners to process foreign passengers at manual counters.

The system comes from Portuguese company, Vision-Box.

CGK is experiencing a boom in passenger numbers. By the end of 2017, the airport is expected to process 61 million passengers, an 84% increase from its current 33 million annual capacity.

The ABC solution means that CGK can quickly and accurately process this increased number of arriving and departing passengers while enhancing airport security.

CGK originally installed ABC eGates in 2012. That system included two gates for international departures and eight for international arrivals and could only be used by the country’s ePassport holders.

The older system used fingerprints for recognition while the new ABC eGates use facial recognition. As well as using more advanced technology, the new ABC eGates see a big increase in numbers.

Jean-François Lennon, Vice President for Global Business Development & Sales at Vision-Box:

“This next-generation Border Control solution is designed to provide the airport, the travelers and border control authority with a modern, secure, hassle-free solution, and improve efficiency and airport capacity. Our platform unleashes all the benefits of an innovative self-service immigration clearing process, supporting the future growth in passenger traffic. It adds capacity to the airport’s infrastructure without the need to expand its architecture footprint, thus providing a flexible solution for airport stakeholders during peak seasons and times. We are delighted to have been selected to deliver this digital transformation program for the Indonesian border, in collaboration with PT Jaya Teknik, our local partner.”
