Bristol Airport starts self bag drop trial

12 kiosks and 4 self bag drops to be used by easyJet

Bristol Airport in the south-west of England has started a self bag drop trial.

Bristol (BRS) is running a trial of twelve self-service kiosks and four bag drop desks within the easyJet check-in area of the terminal.

The self-bag drop system aims to cut passenger queues, free up staff to concentrate on better passenger service and maximise the use of the airport space.

The airport uses a three-step process.

Step one: at the entrance to the bag drop area, airline staff check passengers’ passports against their boarding passes.

Step two: passengers use a self-service kiosk to weigh and tag their bags.

Step three: passengers place their tagged bags into the baggage system at a bag drop desk.

Phil Holder, Head of Operations Support at Bristol Airport:

“The trial is already speeding up the process for passengers and the initial feedback has been very positive. We are always looking for ways to improve the passenger experience and this trial is an example of how the latest technology can enhance the airport journey.”

Ali Gayward, UK Country Manager at easyJet:

“We recognise that our customers’ airport experience is a hugely important part of their overall journey and so we are delighted to be part of Bristol Airport’s self-service bag drop trial.”
