easyJet inflight entertainment trial to start

Wireless inflight entertainment trial starts on 5 aircraft this autumn

easyJet is launching a wireless inflight entertainment service on board its aircraft.

The new service, called Air Time, allows passengers to choose from a selection of TV boxsets and films, audiobooks and eBooks. They can also enjoy games, flight information, destination guides and even language lessons.

Passengers access the service with their own smart devices (phones, tablets and PCs). This means that easyJet can offer inflight entertainment without adding seatback screens.

Access is possible through Wi-Fi points installed on the aircraft, allowing all passengers to connect to content at high speed.

easyJet is partnering with Japanese digital giant Rakuten and Spanish-based in-flight entertainment specialists Immfly to provide the service.

Content will be in multiple languages including English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.

Andrew Middleton, easyJet’s Ancillary Revenue Director:

Air Time’ will allow us for the first time to offer customers in-flight entertainment in a way that replicates how they consume their media at home.”

“We are delighted to be collaborating with other innovative partners, such as Rakuten who will help us curate engaging content, and Immfly who are providing the unique easyJet portal with a dedicated customer support team, ensuring that easyJet crew are able to continue conducting an excellent standard of safety-focused service and on-board hospitality.”
