Mobile boarding pass launched by Virgin AustraliaVirgin Australia announced two initiatives to enhance the guest travel experience; the Virgin Australia Flight Specials app for iPhone and ‘mobile boarding passes’ across all mainline ports for domestic travel .

Available now from the App Store, the ‘Virgin Australia Flight Specials’ app for iPhone provides a one-stop spot to view the latest flight specials and happy hour fares for Virgin Australia domestic and international flights. It also enables users to enter in their specific travel criteria and sign-up for real-time alerts so that they are notified when a flight special matches their criteria.

Virgin Australia also today launched mobile boarding passes for domestic flights. Guests with a smartphone can access the Virgin Australia mobile website, which provides guests with the flexibility to book a flight, manage their booking, check flight arrival/departure times and check-in from 24 hours prior to their flight while using their mobile device.

The check-in feature from the Virgin Australia mobile website will send the guest their boarding pass as an SMS to allow for mobile boarding. The mobile boarding pass can then be presented at the departure gate to board the flight, offering a faster and more convenient way to check in and board.

Virgin Australia Group Executive of Brand and Customer Experience Mark Hassell said: “Virgin Australia is investing in mobile technologies in order to provide a more seamless travel experience for guests, along with the ease and convenience of accessing our services from a mobile device.

“Our new app for iPhone links seamlessly to new features on the Virgin Australia mobile website, taking guests through every stage of the travel journey. For guests with carry-on luggage only, this means the ability to skip the check-in counter and board the flight simply by scanning their smartphone at the gate”.

Mr Hassell said Virgin Australia will continue to look at new initiatives and services designed to create an even more seamless travel experience for guests.

The ‘Virgin Australia Flight Specials’ app is free to download and is available now from the App Store on iPhone or at http://virg.co/bestfares or www.itunes.com/appstore. Virgin Australia is currently developing an Android version of the app and expects to release it later this year.
