Free thirty minutes WiFi now available at Southampton Airport

A six month trial of automated border control gates (ABC) egates has started at Dublin Airport.

Andy Dent, Retail Manager, Southampton Airport said: “Customer feedback clearly shows that there is a real demand for free WiFi. Installing the free service is an important step for us to make sure that the airport terminal environment continues to fulfil the needs of our passengers, whether travelling for business or pleasure.”

Southampton (SOU) joins with Stansted (STN) and Glasgow (GLA) airports in introducing high-speed WiFi thanks to Arqiva, the communications infrastructure and media services company.

The roll-out of WiFi at these airports means that Arqiva now provides wireless internet services to visitors at 70% of the UK’s largest airports.

Customer service is important to us and we wanted to be able to offer a WiFi service that would be user-friendly, fast and reliable. Ultimately, we wanted to make sure that the terminal WiFi would enhance our passengers’ airport experience. We chose to use Arqiva as the service and infrastructure offered by them fulfilled our own customer service requirements.”

Kevin Day, Head of Travel Services at Stansted Airport said: “The new free WiFi service, introduced at the beginning of April, has been a download hit with over 68,000 users registered in the first month using over 2.5million free minutes. Transforming the passenger experience at Stansted is our primary focus and I’m delighted that tens of thousands of passengers have already taken full advantage of this new free service provided for us by Arqiva.”

Stansted, Glasgow, and Southampton will each provide a minimum of 30 minutes free WiFi:

Stansted – free for 1 hour, then pay as you go

Glasgow – free for 30 mins, then pay as you go

Southampton – free for 30 mins. Then: £3 – 1 hr, £5 – 3 hrs, £9 – 24 hrs, £70 – 6 months, £130 – 1 year.
