Vision-Box® S.A., leader in automated border control equipment, designed, developed and manufactured ABC eGates for the Norwegian National Police Directorate and supported their deployment at Oslo Gardermoen Airport.

Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, is prime contractor in this project.

In the first phase the ABC eGates are to be used by Norwegian nationals only and will allow faster passport and biometric verification, thus reducing the waiting time at the border control and resulting in an improved passenger experience.

The units deployed are similar to other eGates already in production in Finland, the UK and Portugal, among other countries.

The eGates operate in two stages. First, the eGate scans the passport and after a positive validation the passenger enters the gate where an image is captured for facial recognition. Only after this process is concluded does the eGate open, allowing the passenger to continue their journey.

The entire process is remotely monitored by border guards through the vb inspector® application, which allows them to intervene at any time.

vb i-match® is the first eGate of its kind to be single sourced, designed with the traveler experience in mind and support validation of all types of documents. vb i-match® is a multimodal eGate supporting finger, facial and iris recognition and it has been deployed in more than 30 international airports worldwide for border control, security check-points and self-boarding.

Miguel Leitmann, Senior Vice President of Vision-Box ® SA declared that the “integrated offer combining the vb i-match® eGate and vb inspector as part of vb i-shield®, a powerful Unified Identity Management platform, allows the consolidation of the border crossing information thus providing analytical insight and decision making support to the border guards and the airport”.

Vision-Box® operates automated borders in more than 30 international airports and over 3.000 electronic identity systems across the globe.
