Singapore selects Thales for IFEC on A350

Delivery of the system will begin 2018

Singapore Airlines has selected Thales to supply the inflight entertainment and connectivity on its medium-haul A350 XWBs.

SQ will equip the A350 XWBs with Thales AVANT In-Flight Entertainment system and Ka-band connectivity solutions.

The fleet will be equipped with lightweight AVANT monitors, featuring full high-definition video and integrating Avii, the newest evolution of Thales Touch Passenger Media Unit, in the premium cabins. Avii provides intuitive navigation, full android smartphone look & feel and acts as a second screen which greatly enhances the passenger experience.

The integration of Ka-band connectivity to the in-flight system, using the fastest airborne internet speeds will open up the world to the passenger.

Passengers will have access to a wide selection of connected applications, seamless personal device integration allowing a home experience in the air, High Power USB charging and NFC technology.

Delivery of the system will begin in 2018.

Singapore Airlines has 63 A350-900s on firm order and a further 20 options.

The first aircraft is expected to be delivered in late February 2016 and SQ expects to take delivery of 11 A350-900s in the aircraft’s first year of operation.

Amsterdam will be the inaugural destination with services expected to begin by April 2016.

SQ’s A350s will carry 253 passengers in three classes – business class, premium economy and economy.
