British Airways has raised £1 million for Cancer Research UK through its ‘British Airways Fun Run’ event.

Every year British Airways hosts a fun run to raise fund for Cancer Research UK.

The airline hosts the charity event at the airline’s parkland headquarters near Heathrow.

Runners take part in a 5k or 10k run. Serious runners are at the front and occasional or “once a year” joggers making up the pack – many in fancy dress, are at the back.

In recent years, children under 10 have had their own separate “Little Legs” special 1k run (walk or toddle).

Entertainment, stalls and celebrity guests complete the party atmosphere.

This year, Gary Lineker, one of England’s most famous footballers, enjoyed the festivities.

Gary Lineker:

“A huge congratulations to everyone at British Airways who helped to raise a staggering £1 million for such a worthy charity.”

As well as airline staff, locals can join in the activities too.

As many as 12,000 runners have taken part in the annual fundraiser, since it started 17 years ago.

Catherine Irving, senior local fundraising manager at Cancer Research UK:

“We’re delighted that British Airways is supporting us again this year and would like to thank everyone who has taken part to help fund our life-saving work.

“Cancer Research UK receives no government funding for its ground-breaking research, so funds raised through supporters like British Airways is crucial to the work of the doctors, nurses and scientists who work day and night to beat cancer sooner.”

John Ball, Editor – PassengerSelfService

“PassengerSelfService has promoted cancer and kidney research since our beginning.

“We will always promote and support these superb and essential charities.”
