Bugulma Airport deploys facial recognition system

Smart Tracker FRS from Speech Technology Center

Bugulma Airport in Tatarstan has introduced a new facial recognition system that tracks passengers in real time.

The small airport, about 970 km east of Moscow, has deployed the Smart Tracker FRS from Russian company Speech Technology Center. Smart Tracker FRS is a state-of-the-art biometric solution designed for real-time face detection and recognition.

Speech Technology Center is one of the largest IT suppliers for transport companies in Russia. The Smart Tracker FRS system has been implemented at 70 transport facilities in Russia, including at metro, transport hubs, bus and railway stations.

Many cities have it in use including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and others.

The facial recognition system, integrated into the video surveillance system, allows verification and identification of individuals, helps identify offenders and organise preventive protection measures.

The biometric system performs the facial recognition by comparing facial features from live images with images in a database. Face images can be previously uploaded to the database from any source: photographs, video recordings, scanners, web cameras, photo cameras, CCTV cameras, etc.

The facial recognition system adapts to lighting conditions and does not depend on appearance modifications related to aging, beard, hairstyle changes, etc.

The system also makes it possible to record places of increased congestion and build and download reports based on this information. Based on the information received, decisions can be made to improve passenger comfort, for example, to optimise traffic flows.
