Effective December 17, to celebrate Qatar National Day, Qatar Airways passengers on all connected aircraft will enjoy free Wi-Fi for the first 15 minutes.
The free 15 minutes comes courtesy of Ooredoo.
Passengers who wish to remain connected in the air can pay based on the amount of time they need.
One hour of connectivity costs 5 USD, three hours of connectivity is 10 USD.
Passengers on longer flights pay a set price of 20 USD for the duration of their trip, no matter how long it is.
First Class passengers on board the airline’s A380 will enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi for the duration of their trip.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said:
“Qatar Airways has always prided itself on delivering outstanding in-flight service, superior on-board products, and operational excellence for its passengers and today’s announcement is proof of this on-going commitment. We believe on-board shouldn’t mean off-line. As an ambitious and award-winning business we understand the need to stay connected whilst going places. By offering customers the chance to stay connected whilst flying, Qatar Airways is demonstrating its promise to offer a premium service to all customers.
“This partnership really reflects the values at the core of our new, recently unveiled, global brand positioning – ‘Going Places Together’ – and further underpins our commitment to offering the best to our customers.”
This year, Qatar Airways launched Oryx One, an enhanced interface for its inflight entertainment system, increasing the number of movies and TV shows on board from 950 to up to 2,000.
Passengers flying on Qatar Airways flights served by its B787, A350, A380, A319 as well as select A320 and A330 aircraft can also stay in touch with their friends and family around the world by using the airline’s on-board Wi-Fi and GSM service.
Qatar Airways’ new state-of-the-art hub, Hamad International Airport, already offers passengers on the ground free Wi-Fi before travel or during transit.
