Ultra Air makes its first commercial flights

Colombian start-up Ultra Air has made its first commercial flights.

The actual first flight was on 23 February from Bogotá to San Andres, a rather nice Colombian island in the Caribbean. Flight OL5166 was full with 188 passengers on board.

Ultra Air has launched flights with three Airbus A320s and two more are expected in the coming months.

The ultra low cost carrier (ULCC) has approval to fly on multiple domestic routes. In its start up phase it will fly on nine routes which connect almost all the major destinations in Colombia.

  • Bogota – Santa Marta
  • Bogota – San Andres
  • Medellin – Cartagena
  • Medellin – Santa Marta
  • Santa Marta – Pereira
  • Cartagena-Pereira

The biggest missing at the moment is Barranquilla.

Domestic competition

The launch of Ultra Air should be great news for Colombian domestic flyers. Avianca and Viva Air fly on all these routes. LATAM flies eight of them.
