Hawaiian now has free Starlink Wi-Fi across its Airbus fleet

Available across entire A330 and A321neo fleet

Hawaiian Airlines now has Starlink’s free Wi-Fi on all Airbus-operated flights between the islands and the continental U.S, Asia and Oceania.

Hawaiian, which became the first major U.S. carrier to debut Starlink in February 2024 on its 18 Airbus A321neo aircraft, has now completed Starlink installation across its 24 A330 fleet.

Passengers can connect to Starlink the moment they step onboard the aircraft. Just as they would connect to their home internet, and experience internet at speeds suitable for working, streaming video and gaming.

Since its launch on Hawaiian’s Airbus fleet, Starlink has delivered outstanding performance without service interruptions, even over the farthest reaches of the Pacific Ocean.

Evan Nomura, director of inflight entertainment and connectivity and onboard products at Hawaiian Airlines:

“Becoming the first major airline to offer travelers Starlink at no cost is a remarkable achievement for our team, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the overwhelmingly positive response from guests who have been enjoying our industry-leading connectivity onboard.”

How it works

Starlink delivers high-speed, low-latency internet to users all over the world.

Starlink has a huge constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit, allowing it to offer high-speed, low-latency internet access across the globe, including isolated areas.

A small, thin terminal is installed on top of the aircraft. That allows it to receive strong, fast internet signals from the satellites.

The terminal switches connections from satellite to satellite as the aircraft flies, providing an uninterrupted internet experience for passengers.

This allows passengers to use the internet across the globe, including over oceans, polar regions and other remote locations previously unreachable by traditional cell or Wi-Fi signals.

Starlink is engineered and operated by SpaceX.

Installation on other Hawaiian aircraft

Hawaiian is also installing Starlink on its Boeing 787-9 fleet. They currently have two 787s and ten on order.

They have no plan to use the service on Boeing 717 aircraft, which is used for short flights between the islands.
