Austrian Airlines receives its first Airbus A320neo

Three more A320neos due by spring 2023

Austrian Airlines has received its first Airbus A320neo.

The aircraft, registration, OE-LZN, was delivered to Austrian’s headquarters in Vienna..

The aircraft took off from the Airbus factory in Toulouse at 1612 on September 13, 2022 with flight number OS1472 and landed at Vienna Airport at 1810 local time.

The airline’s newest fleet member is now with Austrian Technik for cabin refurbishment and painting. The aircraft was originally going to Lufthansa, hence the need to refurbish and repaint.

Austrian will operate the A320neos primarily on short- and medium-haul routes with the first commercial flight with passengers planned for mid-October 2022.

The new A320neo is the first in an order of four for Austrian. The airline expects the second A320neo in October 2022. It plans to integrate all four into its existing fleet by spring 2023.

Austrian Airlines COO Francesco Sciortino:

“The aircraft type is more fuel-efficient and quieter than the previous model due to modern engine technology and improved aerodynamics. This is an important step towards more climate-friendly air traffic and equips our fleet for the future.”

Benefits of the A320neo

Modern engine technology and improved aerodynamics make the aircraft more fuel-efficient, quieter and cheaper to operate.

The A320neo features the Airbus Airspace Cabin. That improves passenger comfort as they benefit from more personal space and up to 60 percent more capacity for hand baggage.

In addition, a new lighting concept ensures a sense of well-being on board.
