Etihad Airways has introduced free and unlimited inflight messaging and improved Wi-Fi prices.
All passengers on the Abu Dhabi based airline can now enjoy free and unlimited inflight messaging via popular messaging apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, WeChat and more.
Technically its only free for members of the airline’s frequent flyer program, called Etihad Guest.
Everyone can enjoy the free ‘Chat’ messaging throughout their entire flight by signing in with Etihad Guest membership or enrolling online before flying to benefit immediately.
It’s similar to the scheme announced recently by Turkish Airlines. But with Turkish, passengers can enrol onboard as well.
Improved Wi-Fi packages
Passengers can also choose to pay to use onboard network with a choice of Wi-Fi packages.
The ‘Surf’ Wi-Fly plans are available for a flat fee with unlimited data for the duration of the flight.
There are just two prices – one for flights under seven hours, one for flights over that.
- For flights under 7 hours, the Chat package (the messaging) is $2.99 or free for Etihad Guest members, and the Surf package is $9.99.
- For flights over 7 hours, the Chat package is $4.99 or free for Etihad Guest members, and the Surf package is $19.99.
Etihad Guest Platinum and Exclusive tier members as well as passengers travelling in Etihad’s First Class cabins will benefit from complimentary Surf Wi-Fly access throughout their flight.
Etihad Guest Gold members will receive a 25% discount on the Surf package.
