Ibom Air receives its first brand new A220

The first of ten A220s ordered by Ibom Air

Ibom Air has taken delivery of its first brand new A220 from Airbus.

The Nigerian airline ordered ten A220s from Airbus in November 2021 and expects two more in 2024.

The Nigerian carrier is already familiar with the A220 as it operates two wet-leased A220s, the first one in 2021.

Ibom Air is happy with the reception of the aircraft in its markets and that has helped the decision to order the 10 A220s.

Ibom Air currently flies to Uyo, Abuja, Calabar, Enugu, Lagos, and Port Harcourt in Nigeria and Accra in Ghana.

The new A220s will enable the airline to continue on its growth path, offering new routes across not just Nigeria, but to the West African region and to Africa at large.

Passenger experience

Ibom Air’s A220 offers wide seats, ample overhead storage, large windows and mood lighting.

The ITA Airways A220 has 147 seats in a 2 class layout:

  • Superior has 12 seats
  • Economy has 135 seats

The cabin has a single aisle and all rows have a 2-3 layout.

The Airbus A220-300 features lots of modern aviation technology that delivers fuel efficiency and top-notch passenger comfort, including wide seats.

Adaptable for short and medium-haul commercial operations, with a range of up to 7 hours (up to 3,450 nm), the addition of the Airbus A220-300 to Ibom Air’s fleet positions the airline for expanded service across diverse destinations within the African continent.

At the end of October 2023, Airbus had about 820 orders from around 30 customers for the A220. More than 295 have been delivered, including 50 deliveries so far in 2023.

The A220 is already in successful service with 17 airlines worldwide on 1,350+ routes.
