Lufthansa is now offering all passengers departing from Frankfurt a new baggage collection and check-in service.
The new system, called Remote Bag Drop, is simple and convenient: passengers can pay to have their bags picked up at their chosen pickup point, taken to the airport and checked in.
Passengers can track their bags anytime using a personalised tracking link and receive a digital bag tag receipt once their bags have been checked in.
The new paid-for service makes it easier for passengers to travel to the airport without having to carry their bags. At the airport, they go straight to the security checkpoint, and collect their bags at their destination.
Passengers can book the new offer on lufthansa.com up to 36 hours before departure.
It is available in the greater Frankfurt, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Hanau, Aschaffenburg, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt and Bensheim areas.
The service is available from 25 euros, with prices varying depending on location and pick-up time.
Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer Lufthansa Airlines
“We aim to continuously improve the overall travel experience of our guests and further expand our premium services – both during the flight and on the ground.
“With the new pick-up and check-in service, we are offering our passengers another exclusive service that is unique in Germany. We are making the journey easier from the very first minute.”
How it works

Airportr runs the service with Lufthansa
- Passengers book a pickup slot online up to 23 hours before departure.
- Airportr goes to the passengers’ pickup point at the chosen time. The driver checks the passenger ID, seals, secures and collects the bags.
- Bags are individually sealed, secured, monitored 24/7, and trackable
- Airport checks the bags at special desks, and lets the passenger know via email and SMS when this is done.
- Passengers receive digital airline baggage receipts.
- The passengers can then arrive at the airport when it suits them and go straight to security – no bag drops or check-in kiosks or desks for them!
- Passengers pick-up their bags in the normal way after landing.
Supplier
Airportr, a private UK company, runs the service.
It was first introduced at London City Airport in 2014 for arriving passengers. Here they are on PassengerSelfService.com.
