Air India passengers can now help the airline locate their bags

First airline in Asia to allow Air Tags

Passengers flying Air India can now use Apple AirTag to track the location of their baggage.

Passengers can use the Share Item Location feature to privately and securely share the location of their AirTag or Find My network accessory with Air India customer service to locate lost or delayed bags.

Air India is the first airline in Asia to enable passengers to use this tracking service to help the airline find their bags.

Air India says it carries over 100 million baggage items annually, with more than 99.6% of items arriving with the passenger.

The new AirTag integration will help locate items and expedite recovery for the small number of passengers whose bags are misplaced.

In July 2024, Air India launched bag tracking via its app and website. That meant passengers could track their checked-in bags throughout their journey and get notifications of baggage status on their mobile or pc.

How it works

If the baggage, with the AirTag in it, does not arrive at the destination, the passenger files a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) for the missing baggage.

The passenger generates a “Share Item Location” link through the Find My app.

They share the location link with Air India and associate it with the PIR via the Air India mobile app or website.

The shared AirTag link is then used by Air India’s airport teams to locate the baggage if it’s within airport premises and reunite the baggage with the guest at the earliest.
