easyJet has launched its first smart phone app. The free app, suitable for both iPhones and Android smart phones, will enable passengers to search fares, book flights and much more.
easyJet says it is the fastest airline booking app available, enabling passengers to book a flight on more than 580 routes in less than 30 seconds! .
It will allow users to make bookings, add luggage, register for speedy boarding, check flight status and manage bookings.
The app means that passengers will be able to change flights and travel plans quickly while on the move.
The new facility seems to be at least partly in response to the events of Winter 2010 when large parts of Europe were severely disrupted. The eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland closed the skies over much of Northern Europe for several days, causing severe disruption to the plans of millions of passengers and costing airlines more than US 1 billion.
easyJet is also working with the Norwegian Institute for Air Research to minimise future disruption. They have devised a system allowing pilots to identify and avoid clouds of volcanic ash.
