Frequent passengers have started using a dedicated security lane at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR).
The program allows pre-qualified passengers to pass through security checkpoints more swiftly if they submit to background checks and provide additional personal information, like email addresses and cell phone numbers not required for regular security in airports.
Screening benefits for eligible participants include leaving on shoes, light outerwear and belts, as well as leaving laptops and 3-1-1 compliant liquids in carry-on bags.
To qualify for Pre-Check, travelers must pay an $85 enrollment fee and register online. About 17 percent of passengers atSYR are already qualified.
Once qualified, travellers can carry the TSA Pre-Check logo on their boarding pass and can use TSA Pre-Check lanes at more than 40 airports across the US.
The TSA had previously designated 40 U.S. airports for the program, with 7 million passengers qualified for the speedy security checks.
Here is a guide to TSA PreCheck that guide answers lots of questions that aren’t immediately obvious on the TSA website.
