Taipei Main Station will have self bag drop when it finally opens.
The station is the first stop on the mass rapid transit (MRT) line between Taipei and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
Passengers heading to the airport will be able to use off airport check-in and self bag drop at the station.
The station will have:
- eight service counters
- four self check-in kiosks
- six self bag drops
The service counters will initially serve China Airlines and EVA Airways, the country’s two major air carriers.
The self bag drops are the first to be launched in Taiwan.
Focus Taiwan News Channel reported on system operators demonstrating the features for the first time.
About 1 million, or 5 percent of the passengers who travel to Taoyuan Airport’s every year, could benefit from the service.
Taking an express train, passengers could arrive at Airport Terminal 1 in 36 minutes during the line’s initial operating period.
There is no timetable for the launch of the airport MRT line, which has been delayed six times since it was scheduled to open in 2010 with the most recent being in March this year.
Safety concerns have been addressed and operations could start by the end of this year.
