Etihad Airways has installed wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE) on ten A320 aircraft.
The UAE flag carrier has equipped ten Airbus A320 aircraft that recently entered service with streaming technology that lets passengers enjoy the same experience and content found across the rest of Etihad’s fleet.
The ten A320 aircraft, operating from Etihad’s hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport, now feature the complimentary streaming inflight entertainment service.
Passengers can stream movies, TV shows, music and more straight to their mobile devices.
Supplier
The inflight streaming system comes from the Dutch company AirFi.
The system works by installing a box onboard. It’s about the size of the data flight recorder.
The AirFi box creates the onboard Wi-Fi network and the supporting IT infrastructure that enables the IFE and retail.
Egle Paleviciute, AirFi’s Sales Manager:
“As a national carrier of the UAE, Etihad is a very discerning airline with incredibly high standards and a clear vision of its future as part of its ‘Journey 2030’ growth plan, so working with them is an honour.
“We look forward to a fruitful partnership that will bring Etihad’s exceptional content library and award-winning user experience to more passengers than ever before.”
Quick installation
The deployment was achieved in less than one month from contract signing to go-live, .
AirFi’s portable streaming IFE solution has been deployed with more than 80 customers around the world since its introduction in 2014.
