Iberia has introduced an electronic boarding pass that is updated in real-time with seat, gate, or cabin changes.
The dynamic boarding pass is automatically updated in response to any last-minute operational changes.
It shows changes to the seat or boarding gate, if any occur, without requiring any action from the passenger.
Currently, passengers who obtain their boarding pass at the counter or through the app receive a static version that does not reflect any changes.
Typically, they keep checking the app on their phone for up-to-date information, mainly the gate number and departure time.
Iberia says the enhancement updates the boarding pass automatically in case of seat changes, gate changes, cabin changes, or more.
Presumably, the more includes revised boarding times, gate opening and closing times, etc. Airlines never seem to get these right, and their times rarely match those of the airport.
Passengers also receive a push notification on their mobile device with the updated information, avoiding unnecessary movements.
In addition to mobile notifications, Iberia will continue to send complementary updates via email.
This feature is available to users of the Iberia app (iOS and Android) and to passengers who download their boarding pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet from the website.
Iberia continuously improves the Passenger Experience through innovation
This improvement is an example of Iberia’s commitment to innovation, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement in passenger service.
Other examples of innovative projects launched by the airline include:
- ‘Iberia GPT’, a new conversational assistant in ChatGPT that helps passengers plan their trips in an inspiring, agile, and personalised way
- Háblalo x Iberia, an app that improves the travel experience for people with communication difficulties.
Additionally, Iberia was one of the first airlines to partner with Apple to integrate AirTag information into its operations, enabling passengers to share the location of their baggage, thereby improving efficiency and the overall passenger experience.
