KLM now offers free WiFi on most European flights

KLM has begun offering free inflight WiFi on most of its European flights.

Passengers flying with the Dutch flag carrier can now enjoy free, fast WiFi on half of its European narrowbody and regional aircraft.

Throughout their flight, KLM passengers can email, browse the internet, listen to music, play games, or stream movies and TV series – all fast and free.

KLM plans a rapid rollout of fast, full, and free Wi-Fi across 68 aircraft in total. Over 50 aircraft already have the system.

The airline plans to roll out the WiFi service on all A321neo, Embraer 195-E2, and a portion of the B737-800 aircraft in the next few years.

KLM is one of the first European airlines to offer free inflight WiFi to passengers within Europe.

How it works

KLM’s European fleet does not have in-seat entertainment screens. So passengers use their own devices to access the free WiFi.

All passengers have to do is log in or register as a Flying Blue member – that’s KLM’s loyalty programme.

Then they can enjoy unlimited internet access during their flight.

Will it be Ad free?

KLM doesn’t say anything about adverts, but their supplier, Viasat, has a section on its website talking about the possibilities.

Supplier

KLM is introducing  Viasat’s Amara Ka-band in-flight connectivity (IFC) system to offer fast and free inflight WiFi on its European flights.

The Dutch airline first began inflight WiFi with Viasat in 2021 on its Boeing 737-800s.

As with the new offering, passengers used their own devices to directly connect to the internet.

Bucks the SpaceX trend

Many airlines have recently introduced or announced deals with SpaceX’s Starlink as it offers stronger streaming and faster connectivity due to its low-Earth orbit satellites that can provide internet access in remote regions and over the ocean.

Even KLM’s partner, Air France, is rolling out SpaceX’s Starlink service across its fleet. It started flights with Starlink in September 2025 on two Embraer 190, two Airbus A220 and one Airbus A350.
