JetBlue is first airline to sign for Amazon’s inflight Wi-Fi

JetBlue will be the first airline in the world to sign for Amazon’s Project Kuiper, an advanced low-Earth orbit satellite broadband network to bring faster and more reliable onboard Wi-Fi.

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world.

JetBlue will install Project Kuiper technology on aircraft currently flying JetBlue’s original Fly-Fi technology, enhancing the passenger experience with its next-gen satellite connectivity with faster speeds and lower latency.

JetBlue expects to begin rolling out Project Kuiper’s system on about a quarter of its 300+ fleet in 2027.

Marty St. George, president, JetBlue:

“Our agreement with Project Kuiper marks an exciting leap forward for us as the hands-down leader in onboard connectivity.

“Whether it’s binge-watching a favorite show, staying connected with loved ones, or wrapping up a work project, we’re always looking for ways to make our customers’ time in the air as connected and productive as they want it to be.”

Panos Panay, senior vice president of Amazon Devices & Services:

“Staying connected is part of everyday life, even when you’re traveling. With Project Kuiper, we’re working to ensure customers can enjoy fast, reliable internet wherever they are—at home or 35,000 feet in the air—and we’re pumped to bring that to life with JetBlue.”

What’s Project Kuiper?

Project Kuiper plans to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet to customers and communities around the world.

The system is built around a constellation of thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) —connected by high-speed optical links that will create a mesh network in space — and linked to a global network of antennas, fibre, and internet connection points on the ground.

Amazon has deployed more than 100 satellites to date, and is continuing to increase its production, processing and launch rates ahead of an initial service rollout.

Starlink

SpaceX’s Starlink is the leader in the LEO race.

About 1,000 commercial aircraft were equipped with Starlink’s service in July, doubling its footprint in just five months.
