Mumbai launches T2 App

Uses augmented reality for indoor navigation.

GVK Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) has launched India’s most advanced indoor navigation app with Augmented Reality features for the convenience of passengers passing through the iconic Terminal 2.

The ‘Mumbai T2 App’ will assist them with an interactive walkthrough experience where passengers can locate any outlet and enjoy the complete access of the airport within their comfort zone.

The app plays a complete navigation guide with user-friendly technology, helping passengers locate anything at the airport through a one click process.

Passengers travelling on any airlines through T2, merely need to select the flight to get constant information through the push notification system and the “Mumbai T2 App” will assist them for a hasslefree travel experience.

The app works on an innovative platform developed on the combination of Indoor Atlas and iBeacon technologies that creates magnetically modelled maps and provides location-based information using their 3G/4G connections, or the free Wi-Fi services available at the airport. iBeacon is a state-of-the-art technology introduced for the first time in an Indian airport, thus empowering the travellers to a delightful experience of unwinding themselves during their travel by just connecting through their Bluetooth.

Mr. Rajeev Jain, Chief Executive Officer, Mumbai International Airport Limited said:

“We constantly endeavour to provide world-class facilities at T2, and always strive to make it as easy as possible for air travellers to discover them. With the Mumbai T2 app, travellers can design their own customised experiential tour with a single click. Moreover, we being a ‘silent’ terminal, cutting down on public announcements, the app will be a very handy tool for passengers to keep track of their flight schedule through constant notifications.”

The app, named ‘Mumbai T2’ after the iconic T2 terminal, is compatible with Apple and Android phones and tablets, and can be downloaded for free from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store.

The app developed by Next Byte Wave Technologies, connects directly to the Flight Information System in the airport to provide updates on flight status and changes in departure time through a simple timely notification starting a day prior to the flight.

The T2 App will be regularly updated to include many more features starting with the international departures, phasing out to cover international arrivals, domestic flights, taxi booking services, also offering a virtual walk-through experience of various sections of the airport including the Jaya He GVK New Museum.
