Munich Airport trials security time slots

Passengers get a 30-minute time slot to go to security

Passengers at Munich Airport Terminal 1 can now book a specific time slot for their security check.

Munich Airport wants to better control passenger flows before security checks in Terminal 1 and reduce waiting times.

So it is trialling a new service, Express Queue, that allows passengers to book a 30-minute time slot to access security and passport control.

When passengers go to security within their time slot they go directly to the security check via a separate lane.

Passengers make a booking for the Express Queue, choose a time slot and get a QR code on their mobile.

They have to go to the Express Queue entrance before security within their time slot after completing check-in.

At the Express Queue entrance, they show the QR code and can then access the security check via a separate lane from the main body of passengers.

Passengers can also use a separate lane at passport control with the same QR code.

The free service is available to passengers going to non-Schengen countries.

It is offered daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the security checkpoints in Departures Concourses B and C of Terminal 1. The last possible time slot is no later than 90 minutes before departure time.

Munich Airport is initially testing the procedure for 60 days.

Other airports with time slots

A number of airports have introduced or trialled security time slots.
